Well, for starters I don't know -anything- about running a FreeBSD binaries on
a NetBSD machine. I repeat I compiled this stuff on my system which is
a 386-40 running FreeBSD-1.0-EPSILON and XFree86-1.3u1. (whew). I have had
several people tell me that they would like a NetBSD port as well. I assume
this means that the binaries are -not- 100% transportable.

I am willing to so the port, and several people have offered me accounts on
NetBSD machines to do this work. As soon as someone sets me up one I will be
glad to do the work. Should only take a few hours.

If you get as far as you claim you got (it past the password screen), all
should be fine -unless- you are running it through slip or ppp. In this case
you might just need to be patient. It takes me about 10+ seconds to get
the initial game data to start up a session. After that things run well.

Note: To use netrek RSA binary verification you need -R (not -r as your mail
message states). '-r' looks for a defaults file different from ~/.xtrekrc.
This might be your problem. The command you should use to hook up a session
is something like:

netrek -R -p 2592 -h bigbang.astro.indiana.edu	(my server)
netrek -R -p 2592 -h hockey.ksu.edu (what you were trying)
netrek -R -m (poll metaserver for active games)

I just now tried the command you were using. It uses the 'old' stype binary
varification. On hockey.ksu.edu this should work well, but on others you will
fail RSA binary ferification (they will think you are a borg.)

Send me personal mail at pitts@bigbang.astro.indiana.edu if you still can not
get it to go with the particulars of your situation. I'll see what I can do
from there.
