Not that this helps, but at least it lets you know that this is a known problem
and it has to do with the current wd.c driver.  However, a driver that fixes
the problem with certain drives breaks a bunch of others.  

What is needed is someone to re-write the wd driver from scratch to take into
account all of the different disks.
