Yes, I remember that text.  It was indeed part of the
``A Fast File Syystem for UNIX'' paper as it appeared
in the 4.2 docs.  That paper had a chapter 6 ``Software
engeneering''. The version of the paper in the 4.3-net2
sources lacks that chapter.  We no longer have the 4.2
(nor the 4.3) sources on-line so I can't send you a copy.
It is in the 4.2 docs, I checked my hardcopy.
