Just out of interest I tried compiling the kernel *without* doing
a make depend first.  It barfs at exactlt the same point (same file
etc) as when I did a make depend.

Also, I see the subr_mcount is part of an *optional* profiling routine.
I didn't put it in, and it is not in GENERICAHA, so why is it looking
for it?  Either config or mkdep is being made to play the fool.
