Taking the plunge today, I decided to install FreeBSD over my previous
386bsd (PL 0.2.4) system.

I tried installing from both the FreeBSD Gamma and Epsilon versions, but
as soon as I get to the point of installing the cpio-floppy,

(Insert cpio installation floppy in drive and
enter that drive's number (0 or 1): [0]

and select 0 for my drive A (1.2 Meg) floppy, I get the following error:

vm_fault(fe297e00, c28300000, 1, 0) -> 1
  type c, code fe290000
trap type 12 code = fe290000 eip = fe0484fb cs = 8 eflags = 10286 cr2 c28302bc
cpl 800
panic: trap
updating disks before rebooting ... failed!

Can anyone give me a clue as to what's going wrong?

The system here is an 80386 40Mhz, with 8 Meg RAM and FASTMATH Math Coprocessor.
Additionally, I'm using a Adaptec 1542B SCSI board, set to the FreeBSD
defaults, and LUN 0 is a Maxtor 200 Meg SCSI Drive.

I did have a WD8003 board in there, as well as a 2 Serial port board, but
pulled them out to make a minimal configuration hoping that one of those
boards may have been interfering with the install.

I've tried disabling the cache (64K), disabling all ROM Cache's and slowing
the wait states down as slow as they'll go. Still no go.

The kcopy and filesystem floppies load up fine, no errors, and the kernel
copy goes without error as well.

Help! :-)
