It sounds like your base?? files and probably the others
are corrupted, in fact it sounds very much like you haven't
been using BINARY mode for transfering. Once the you transfer
the files correctly you'll find that base?? doesn't skip to next
file, and /etc/rc and /bin/sh will be installed. Get good clean
versions of the base?? comp?? etc. and try again. Check them
out on another Unix-Machine before trying to install.
