very often the system locks and hangs..or appears to hang now and I get
stuck in this editor mode that nothing will escape from...everything
is interpretted literally i.e. ctrl c comes up ^c etc...
if I have screen running...I can kill the processes my other session
was running and usually regain control of the locked session.
if im not running screen and I log in as root and type a command
it it puts me in this mode...I have to reboot the Netbsd-9 system.

I am beginning to think that if the system cant interpret a certain command
paramitter or the function doesnt exist the machine goes into this mode.

any help?
