Hi Netter!

My current Problem with NetBSD0.8 and 0.9 is :

They do not work with a (real old) streamer , consistig of a drive
and an emulex mt03. It did work on and sun-3 with sunos-4.0.3 and
it works also with a dg av200d running dgux-4.3.1 .

During boot, the streamer is registered as one.
but mt -f /dev/nrst0 status gives "unknown tape drive type (7)"
tar cfv /dev/rst0 . works, but
messages st0: soft error + st0: ... ignored cummulate, and the tape is
not streaming.
tar cfv /dev/st0 . works better and streams most time and gives less messages,
but I would like to write a tape without hard or soft or any errors.

trying to estimate the capacity of the tape with dd if=/dev/rwd1e of=/dev/st0
(does not stream) crashes the system after approx. 5 MByte.

My second Problem is:

currently, I have installed an adaptec esdi-controller (works fine)
and the adaptec 1542b for a third disk and the streamer mentioned above.

I would like to boot from sd0, but if the two esdi-disks are set-up in the cmos,

the bios will not boot it. Instead, it bootes from the first esdi-disk.

If I set the cmos-disks to <none>, netbsd is booted from sd0a, but
shortly after wd0 and wd1 disks were registered,
the system crashes while attemping to access any of the esdi-drives.

So i picked the emulex scsi->esdi converter (md21), which were used formerly in
conjunction with the esdi-disks, so i would be able to
connect all disks to the scsi-bus.
These controllers do not register during boot time.

Any suggestions?

please mail me, I will post a summary.

Juergen.

PS. Does anyone have a description of
a) jumpers on
b) known scsi-commands of
   Emulex MD21 and MT02 / MT03 ???
