It might be that the version is buggy but I am using it since last year and the 
version from Paulus Mackerras ( don't remember the name exactly ) is the best
available. I use it since a few weeks , sometimes for hours and there is no
serious problem . You might need to disable some compressions ( options -pc -ac )
if you have problems transmitting from NetBSD to sun. However there is enough 
compressed ... Sooo ..
if you have time ( the installation isn't quite straitforward .. ) Just test it..
I can speak only for NetBSD but i heard that the freebsd-implementation is the
same.
