I really don't understand what went wrong with you compiling the stuff with crypt. I installed patch50000 over the complete 0.2.4 patchkit, went to the correct source and recompiled the stuff. I think I did recompiled the libc first, but I'm not sure. Since I installed FreeBSD with some difficulties, I don't have the 0.2.4 util around anymore, but they are still on backup tape here.
