I run XFree86-1.3u1 (mostly the same as 1.3) without a hitch under FreeBSD.
Feel free to E-mail me if I can be of any help getting it up and running.
I had no problems except for one:

After you install the softare you must run the x386config script in
/X386/lib/X11/etc. This script will tell set up some com ports (that
you don't use on FreeBSD because you now use sio ports) and establish
some links to the X libraries etc on your system. This script will bitch
at you that you do not have X in your kernel.

Just ignore this message. The distributed kernel has X in it already
I believe. If you want to be sure, compile the GENERICAH kernel (after
making modifications to represent your swap devices ... the dafault is
more than likley NOT what you want). You might want to put the ppp
driver in now as well ('pseudo-device	ppp 2' down where the slip driver
is located will do it). Once you install the new kernel, you WILL have
X support in place.

Good luck. Feel free to E-mail me if I can help you out in any way
(except financially ...) ;)
