I wish you luck, Amancio, but be warned that merely asking *him* for
permission isn't going to save us, since it pretty much went out of
his hands the minute he released it under the GPL! He can't tell you
that it's OK for you to release a binary-only copy of his GPL'd
driver; no one can.
What he CAN do is release another version that's NOT GPL'd, and I've
asked him myself to do this several times, as have a few other people.
To my knowledge, he's never been willing.
