Are you totally sure your drive is registered with the CMOS?

The only thing that's been changed in the newer driver is
that non-registered drives will report an ENXIO now, instead
of hanging the system in case there really hadn't been a drive.
Note, dos usually can even work with non-registered drives
(wonder how they do it though).
