   For one thing, it calls the device driver XXclose() function twice
   when it should only be called once. I'm sure Charles will point out
   other things it does wrong.

The double call is as may be, but FreeBSD definitely does have a
hanging console bug.  I've been running it for a week or so, and
whenever I leave the box on overnight, there's a good chance I will
come back the next day and find the console hung.

Usually I will leave Xfree running, so my hypothesis is that something
involved with cron is the culprit, and I've added kbd_mode -u hacks to
the end of my cron scripts to see if that gets it.

But maybe the above (someqhat astringent) discussion arises from the
fact that the "hack" mentioned only fixes one aspect of the problem.
If I might be enlightened as to the nature of the problem, I might be
able to find it more quickly.  Thanks.
