Well, I bit the bullet and upgraded my system from 386BSD patchkit
0.2.4 to FreeBSD this weekend and while it took a full day, it was
   pretty painless.

Is there something like a patchkit to upgrade from 386BSD 0.2.4 to FreeBSD?
I read that someone was working on it (Nate?). How far is it?

Subject: building emacs 18.59 on NetBSD 0.9?

Since my NetBSD 0.8 emacs 18.59 binary is confusled by the new db
format in 0.9, I thought I'd just rebuild it so it would be happy. I
had deleted the sources previously cause I thought I wouldn't need
them anymore, so I started from scratch. However, once I finally got
it to make and install, whenever I try to exectute it, it just gives
me a message like it tried to run a bad shell script or something:

	<root@stingray>/usr/src/usr.local.bin/emacs/v18.59# emacs
	/usr/local/bin/emacs: 1: Syntax error: ")" unexpected

I assume this is because emacs tries to build its own crt0 and the one
it builds is not compatible with 0.9. But what is more confusing, is
that my previous 18.59 binary (compiled on 0.8) actually ran, it just
whined about bad db format, but the new one won't run at all. What
needs to be done to make emacs 18.59 build and run on 0.9?

Please don't even bother telling me to run 19.x -- emacs is an editor
for me -- I have no plans of creating a vmunix.el. From what I've
seen, 19.x is a such a sickly bloated pig I don't want it anywhere
near my system. 18.59 is plenty good for me.
