I rebuilt XFree86-1.3 from scratch again, this time installing
server/ddx/x386/etc/ioctl_pc.h as /usr/include/sys/ioctl_pc.h first.
Unlike my previous experience, the build and installation proceeded
without trouble.  I made absolutely no modifications to the distributed
sources.

However, it still reboots the machine when run.  As before, it gets as
far as switching video modes before it crashes.
