I have had a book for quite some time now called "UNIX System
Administration Handbook" by Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, and Scott Seebass
(Prentice Hall ISBN 0-13-933441-6). This book has been invaluable to
me since I started running 386bsd. It talks about everything you
mention with the exception of slip. A few of the chapters are:
Configuring the Kernel, Installing Terminals (modems too), Printing,
Adding a Disk, Networking, Setting up Mail, Uucp... There are other
chapters that start off lightly (like booting and shutting down), so
this book is useful for people staring at ground zero (like I did),
as well as those who are already familiar with UNIX. Hope this helps.
