Do you have a ms-dog partition table there?
*BSD has problems with translated drives in that case. To get rid off
the translation, you need to activate the ESDI controller's setup
program. This is usually started at location 0xc800:5 (the 0xc800
may vary) with a debugger under msdoze.

If the drive ain't got a partition table, translation is ignored and
does no harm.
