I have been using gdb-4.9 extensively and excusively with C and C++
code since it came out. No special tweaks or mods needed. Gdb-4.8 worked
just fine, too. Which *BSD are you using, anyways?

Are you by any chance using the shared-libs by Pete Chown?
I did experience some trouble running 4.9 when lunk with those libs (one of
the few problems I have had with them, btw). I'm running 386bsd-0.1 + 0.2.4.
