Has anyone got a working recent version of gdb (version 4.x) for
NetBSD?

I am trying to build the current version of gdb (4.9) because the
version (3.5) distributed with *BSD no longer understands debugging
output from C++.

GDB version 4.9 doesn't work compiled out of the box. When loading an
executable that has been compiled with -g debugging symbols, it
reports that it was unable to allocate some large amount of memory
(several hundred megabytes) and exits. It loads and runs non-debug
executables just fine (really useful).

If nobody has done this, I will work on it but I'd rather not reinvent
this wheel.
