I don't think this post made it out when I originally posted it,
so here it is again...

------------------
Howdy,
I have been trying to set up my second IDE hard drive
for use w/ NetBSD 0.8. I have read the relevant sections
of the FAQ, and came up with the following entry for
/etc/disktab:

cp30174e|Conner Peripherals 170MB IDE:\
	:dt=ST506:ty=winchester:\
	:nc#903:ns#46:nt#8:\
	:se#512:\
	:pa#165968:oa#0:ta=4.2BSD:ba#4096:fa#512:\
	:pb#1:ob#331936:\
	:pc#332304:oc#0:\
	:pd#332304:od#0:\
	:pe#165968:oe#165968:te=4.2BSD:be#4096:fe#512:

My intent is to have 2 85 meg partitions (a and e) which
I can use. I set up b to be unused because I didn't want a
swap partition. c and d refer to the entire disk as per
the FAQ.
When I issue the disklabel command (as recommended in
section 2.5.4) I get the following:

# disklabel -w -r wd1 cp30174e
Bootstrap doesn't leave room for disk label

Can someone explain what I did wrong? I have tried various
strategies without success. Interestingly, I tried

# disklabel -e -r wd1

which appeared to generate a valid disklabel (after some
editing), but the subsequent

# newfs /dev/wd1a

caused the machine to hang (after seemingly doing the right
thing, i.e., listing the locations of superblock backups).
    I am using:

	NetBSD 0.8 base+comp+doc+misc+text
main drive: WD Caviar 2340 (NetBSD installed over
		the entire drive)
	slave drive: Conner 30174e
	486SX, 4megs RAM, etc.

If anyone can give me an idea of what I need to do, I would
be very grateful.

Thanks,
Dave
