I have read the FAQ, and three different system administration books, and all they have to say as well as man pages on several systems. Here are my /etc/remote, /etc/phones, and the error message that I get when I try to use tip. There is no getty process running on the tty at the time, or anything like that which would complicate matters (right now), and I have configured everything as the FAQ has said, taking my system setup into account (my modem is on COM3).
