I have recently discovered problems with gcc 1.39's alloca() routine.

When I reconfigured some X programs to _not_ use alloca() (using
malloc()/free() instead) I found some memory overwrite problems
were eliminated, and other memory woes expunged.

I haven't yet identified the alloca() problem - but I have convinced
 myself it exists.
