Be careful what you're comparing, Russ.  SunOS 4.1.1 used OpenWin
Version 2, while Solaris 2.x (and even 4.1.3) use Openwin Version 3.
Version 3 definitely is more memory intensive that 2, so this is
probably where you are seeing the slow down.  I am curious how much
RAM is in the SS1 vs the Classic?
