This one shows up periodically; it should be in the FAQ [it IS
in the XFree86 V1.2 docs; I don't use xdm anymore so I don't
know if it's in the V1.3 stuff.]  Anywat, when you use xdm
make sure you use the -nodaemon flag.  That way it doesn't
detach from your keyboard.  If it DOES detach then getty
tries to read input from the keyboard while X is also doing
so, and confusion results.
