Or with X386-SGCS on BSD/386, it runs with a "Mach32" driver which is
the native mode for that card.  This is probably true of SGCS' other
platforms, too, but I only know about BSD/386.

You bet your booty.  Moveopaque in twm is smooth as glass.  Almost as good as
a NeXT :-)..  Seriously, it works and it works well.  The X server doesn't
know or care that the card is in a localbus slot.  I guess that means it's
using 16-bit transfers, which makes me wonder how it could be faster if it
knew it could do 32-bit transfers.  Perhaps Mark Snitily will comment.
