You may try to enable the NoSpeedUp option in Xconfig. The problem is related
with one or more of the SpeedUp options (I located SpeedUp 8 to be at least 
responsible. Try various combinations of SpeedUp X where X is a bitwise
OR of 1 2 4 8 16 32 ). It happens, when the icon beams are drawn.
