BSD/386 hauls butt compared to 386BSD . I had a 486dx33, 8MB ram, S3 924,
4 xterms, xbiff, xload, SLIP, emacs, and a cc all running, and it was as
peppy as could be. The nearly same config buried 386BSD.

My understanding is that BSDI has done mucho work on the vm system, and
it shows.

BSDI's big problem is that since they have to provide stability as a commercial
product, they can't be "bleeding" edge like 386BSD/NetBSD can be with people coming
out with new cool stuff every 10 minutes.

However, BSD/386 is very stable. The installation utilities alone blow
NetBSD and 386BSD out of the water. disksetup -i is slick, and easy to use.

BSD/386 has some deficiencies in the uninstall area (try rm -rf), and from
a brief perusal of the docs, upgrades come in the form of reinstalls.

BSD/386 doesn't support as many peripheral controllers as 386BSD. SCSI support,
while fast for Adaptec, is lacking in terms of supporting other controllers.

I have both 386BSd and BSD/386. I will probably stick with BSD/386.
