I tried using codrv after installing pk-0.2.4. It worked fine until I
started X. All I got from X was a blank black screen and then the server
aborts and doesn't restore text mode. I was able to reboot at this point
although I couldn't see what I was typing. I have redirected the output of
startx to a file and there are no error messages.

I've got XFree86-1.3 installed but I'm using the XBSD8514-0.1 server which
I was using with XFree86-1.2. This works fine with pk-0.2.4 and pccons.
Should I obtain (or build) an updated 8514 server for XFree86-1.3?

I reverted to pccons (MAKEDEV pc0, edit /etc/ttys to change console to vga)
and then I had a problem root logins on the console. Basically, login was
telling me that root logins were not allowed on ttyv0. I overcame this
problem by adding ttyv0-3 to /etc/ttys with the secure keyword. But why
did this problem suddenly appear? Is this a result of pk-0.2.4?

Anyway, XFree86-1.3 is running fine now with pccons but I'd like to get
it going with codrv.
