I am attempting to compile perl 4.036 using gcc 2.4.5, but have a
significant amount of confusion because of the strange perl
configuration process and all the strange setup scripts.

1) How can I force use of gcc's cpp? I've tried numerous things, including
      invoking /usr/local/lib/i386-bsd4.4/2.4.5/cpp directly.

2) gcc -E apparently is not reading/writing from stdin/out. I've also
tried gcc -E -pipe with no success.

3) I am getting errors because /usr/include is being searched first. It
seems that the options -nostdinc -idirafter /usr/include are not
      working. HELP!

:-)
