You seem to believe that these represent my firm and honest opinions
rather than an answer to the question "Why are people so touchy?".

In other articles, I have stated what *MY* concerns were: mainly I would
like to avoid BSDI and 386BSD being considered synonymous and that BSDI
should not be considered an offshoot of 386BSD or vice versa.

OS/2 was the example given by you. I was simply indicating that it
wasn't a good example (and I'm glad you now agree with me) by
tautology.

As to similarity, I think you'll agree that BSDI's support for 386BSD's
ABI has to be factored into the equation. BSDI's ability to run 386BSD
binaries has prevented the release of several commercial products on a
"freeware" basis for 386BSD, since the companies would lose revenue from
a commercial OS. These same packages have been released to the Linux
community free of charge (because no one runs Linux binaries but Linux
-- yet).

Meanwhile, until very recently, 386BSD has not been able to run commercial
binaries for BSDI, and thus has not benefitted from commercial applications
developers work on BSDI's OS.

No, it *wasn't* me; I was responding to your followup question about why
some people are "touchy" (a semantically loaded word which could be
construed to have been used as flamebait -- since it implies a culturally
negative condition in the original poster). In my opinion, there are
many justifications for this, some of them valid.

None taken.
