Scott,

I normally do a dump 0f /dev/nst0 for the first and second volumes,
which correspond to root and /usr and then dump 0f /dev/st0 for the third.

By specifying the no-rewind device for the first and second each is 
chained after the other on the same tape.  In fact I have a backup script that
really does the job, that is cronable, but these are the commands it uses.

The tape is dat from an adaptec 1542c.
