Yes, its taking place. There is a mailing list moderated by Julian Elischer and
10-15 people (including the authors of syscons, codrv and pcvt) from all over
the world participating.

The status of all this is, after long discussions, last week a first skeleton
of a driver (just the interface specs) was made by Julian, which is now to be
discussed.

All this looks very promising to get a "united" highly configurable console
driver, which will suit virtually anybodies needs.

But, (and thats my personal opinion) it will last some time until this gets
ready, don't expect anything before the end of the summer ...
