I'm a little confused as to how you can offer "any" site, as you say in your 
followup, and still provide a "list" of sites. If you can create a list you 
can use Gopher... no??? Also, if you want to write a script to take 
input from the user, create the necessary Gopher link, and then connect to 
it... I believe that is possible with Gopher. It isn't something I've tried, 
however.

Anyway, an alternate suggestion is something I saw by the author of Trumpet, 
the PC newsreader program. The copy I saw was in beta, but it offered archie 
and ftp in a simple to use TurboVision (I think) interface. Trumpet is 
shareware and I assume this other system would be as well.
