It's my understanding that all of the IO functionality of windows applications
is handled by the DLL's, calls to which are resolved at load/run time.

If this is the case, then it must be possible to have a system that provides
all the functionality of the DLL's but for X, so you could run windows
applications under X on a [34]86 system running unix.

I'm sure that there are a million reasons why this can't be done! (If it were
possible, I'm sure a lot more people would trash their DOS/Windows partitions -
I know I would!)

Anyway, just an idea...
