Summary: difficulty getting the install disk to boot on my eisa machine

Help, I have a 486 HP vectra.
Its an EISA bus, running ESDI hard drives.
I can't get the installation disk to finish booting.
 
oddities on my system:
the Hard Drive is remapped 
1380 cyls, 8 heads, 32 sectors(?) = 330 MB's.
is remapped to:
636 cyls, 16 heads, 64 sectors. 
 
I cannot disable the mapping.
  
the instsallation floppy hangs after boot.

Help...
