Exactly this I wanted to say. Thank you. And also thank you to deraadt 
for hist previous message where he took position to
my points.

I can now withdraw my critcism about the WD network driver behaviour - things
have settled quite a bit - but I still have flaky networking behaviour: Often I cannot telnet from outside to the machine and when I then go to the machine which is in the state that the Xserver just had died and is fallen back into alpha mode then when I restart X suddenly telnetd (or inetd) seems to be awaken.

It is strange and please just take it as statitics to get some numbers
what kinds of difficulties people have. This may have various reasons.
CPU (AMD 386/40), X server, network card.
