Usually telnetd and ftpd cannot be seen in the ps output after boot. They are
not run like crond or sendmail from the /etc/rc, nor manually.
The are started when a connection to the assigned tcp/udp port is requested.
The process that watches for connections and performs this multiplexing is
"inetd". Look if /etc/inetd.conf exists and has correct entries for telnetd and
ftpd (See manual page on inetd.conf). Check whether inetd is started correctly.
Check whether ifconfig initialized your card correctly, i.e. with right
internet address and netmask and flags.
