No it doesn't help, if you can put the controller to the right IRQ and
DRQ, there is a lot more involved in that. All controllers use different
commands to do the work, so you need to write an extra driver for every
controller, you want to use.
I think, the abbreviation of DRQ is the DMA channel request used, but i
am not sure. 

You can only use the Adaptec 1542B/1540B , 1542C ( can not be used to install
386bsd-0.1 ), 1542A (don't know if you can use it to install ), or the
1742A (not tested from me :-) in the 1542 emulation mode. You should
be able, to use later a Bustek 742A or an Ultrastor 14f SCSI controller.
No support yet for the Seagate ST01/ST02 or the Adaptec 1522.
