I'd like to second Rod's request for leniency. The patchkit is ALOT
(ALOT!!!!) of work, easily enough to keep one or two people full
time employed, if it actually was a paid position. Rod's been working
his tail off on this stuff, before and after he took the position.

My opinion is, if you don't like the way things are being done, do it
yourself (ala Chris's project). It's more work than many folks realize,
so before you go and ask for your pet patch in the patchkit, hold off
a bit on it, and think about how much work it would be to have it working
perfectly on every box that you can think of, and then multiply that amount
of time by 5 to get things done because of the patchkit overhead.
