Check out if you have a heating problem. I got the same problems but discovered
after quite a whole that the real problem was that my Maxtor SCSI drive is
sensitive to heat. I upgraded my Fan to a stronger one, and the problem
did go away. If your problem pops up after having run the system for some
hours and not directly after startup, try to improve the cooling of the
drive by if you could improve the flow of air inside the cabinett or
upgrade the fan from 32m*3/h to 54m*3/h or even 154m*3/h. I still had 
problems with 54m*3/h, but the 154m*3/h.
