386bsd does not have the routine 'crypt' in the library, because of the known
brain-dead US export regulations. You can get a working crypt from
many (often non-US) sites, which does the required job. BTW: 386bsd
no longer stores passwds in /etc/passwd, but in some kind of shadow file.
Look for something like 'uunet-crypt', or go through the NET/2 distribution
where it comes from.

You need the latest patchkit. You should also get cgd's  (or better
bde's) com-driver. This should work ;-) The code should be available from 
agate.berkeley.edu.

It uses Taylor uucp, the one which is distributed by GNU. I recommend
getting the latest package from prep.ai.mit.edu (or another GNU site),
in particular to get the latest documentation. Taylor uucp is quite
different from HDB.
