This is the standard "/dev" magic filesystem, with the addition of a second
name space to be interpreted by the kernel.

The special file system idea is a good one, long term. Adding a second name
space is a bad idea (look at System V IPC for an example... they added a
standard routine for creating a unique ID from a file name, eventually, as
it became obvious that IPC names should have been in the file system to
begin with).
