I have an Orchid Superboard 486/50Mhz 256k cache VESA local bus.
And have tested a couple of different S3 local bus cards.

So far, the S3 local bus cards have managed to benchmarked lower than
their ISA counterpart.

there is a hardware problem with S3 805 local bus cards. so at this
point I am not recommending them.

There are no problems with S3 911 local bus cards, they are just
slower than S3 801 ISA cards.

Also, I have a local bus IDE controller which is about 4 times
faster than my IDE ISA controller. The cost of my local bus
IDE controller (no cache) is $89 :-)

Hopefully, soon the hardware performance problems with S3 cards
will be solved.
