XFree86 and Chris's serial driver work separately, but I
can't get them to work together. The problem seems to be XFree86
doesn't know the incantation to open the mouse port under Chris's
driver.

I have a Kouwei KW-524F serial/parallel card with a 16450 on irq 4
and a 16550AFN on irq 3.

With Chris's driver installed with option COM_BIDIR, I can connect to
the mouse port on irq 4 in bidir mode via kermit (set line /dev/cua00)
and verify that the mouse is alive and well. But no matter what mode
the mouse port is in - bidir or -bidir (which its supposed to be) - and
no matter device I specify for the mouse in Xconfig - /dev/com0 or
/dev/cua00 (which only works in bidir mode) - XFree86 doesn't seem to
be able to open the mouse port: the mouse is doa.

I have noticed that XFree86 is smart about detecting the mouse with the
stock 0.1pl110 serial driver even if the wrong device is given in
Xconfig. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case with Chris's
driver installed.

If anyone has the mouse working under Chris's driver with XFree86,
I would like to know how you do it! Thanks.
