Not to grumble but ...
The makers of the patch don't quite let on as to *what* might
be assigned to the new device numbers created...

**AND**

the "haug" patch for lpt driver was using the addresses taken
for the SCSI driver.

Question: could there be a block -- say, 4 -- numbers carved out
for the "haug patch" plus a couple to spare?
