Amancio Hasty does NOT speak for XFree86. By his own choice, Amancio left
the XFree86 beta test team a few months ago. He has no knowledge of what
is and is not ongoing XFree86 work. And he as NO authority to be giving
people access to alpha-test XFree86 code. Do not believe anything you
don't see in the XFree86 1.2 documentation with regard to what is and
is not supported.

I know this statement is going to piss Amancio off, but he has no more right
to speak for XFree86 than we do to speak about XS3. I feel that rumor
control is more important than hurt feelings at this point, and I hope that
this does not degenerate into a flame war. What I will comment on below
is facts. If anyone wants to flame me, do it in email.

These binaries are ALPHA releases being done by members of the XFree86
Acceleration Team. These are not even built from the official XFree86
source tree. They are not for use by anyone except the members of this
team (which anyone with time and hardware on their hands is invited to
join).

One of the overiding principles of XFree86 is quality control. We're not
always successful, but we try. There are DOZENS of alpha releases between
public releases (there were 15 between XFree86 1.1 and 1.2), and several
beta releases (6 between XFree86 1.1 and 1.2, but usually just 2 or 3).
Our mistake was putting the alpha server in a publically accessible area.
This won't happen in the future.

NO ONE outside the acceleration team should have a server that claims to
be XFree86 that supports 8514 or S3. If you want to be involved in this
work, and are willing to put time and effort into it, send mail to
xfree86@physics.su.oz.au.

You were not asked to do so. You left our team a while ago, and it was
quite clear at the time that we would be doing this. Please do not
presume to speak of what is and is not XFree86 unless you are quoting
release documentation or a posting from soemone who IS on the team.
