I've downloaded via anon. ftp a copy of the dist.fs and fixit.fs from
gatekeeper.dec.com's /pub/BSD/386bsd/0.1/bootable area. I've seen
two different actions with the disks made, depending upon which system
i try them on....

1: Laser 386sx/387sx system, 4 mb ram, STB Ergo Powergraph board, 2 104mb
   ide drives.

trying to boot either of the two floppies here has the same outcome --
seems like the machine is locked. the floppy drive light is lit, but
   no keyboard responce.

2: Tandy 4800 laptop (486sx20 based), 8 mb ram, 60 mb hard drive.

dist.fs boots to the '#', then locks. hitting the left shift key
   doesn't do diddley...

fixit.fs boots to the '#' prompt. hitting the left shift key allows
typing in other commands. but, can you do installs???

Both of the two disks were created with rawrite 1.2 (from a Linux
set of utilities). I'd like to see this system in action before attempting
to do anything with my DTK 80486-25/340 mb hard drive/676 mb hard drive (both
ESDI)/12 mb ram system.

any thoughts?
