Subject: XFree works in 800x600 but dumps core easiliy in 1024x768

I've been using Xfree86 at an 800x600 resolution for a long time. Today I got
a 1024x768 configuration working (I tried with 1.1 but no luck, 1.2 seems more
friendly with working at high res with my monitor/video card combo) but the
Xserver dumps core really easily (like in I do anything at all pretty much and
it dumps core). What gives?

My system: 386/33 12Megs ram. Diamond Speedstar + (booh, hiss), MAG
computonics 1448 (another loser courtesy of gateway 2000)

These observations might help those who might help me: I used to 1744x600
virtual with the 800x600 screen because I liked that. Server would dump core
often while playing xtrek. When I switched to 1024x1024 virtual (after
figuring out theat the 1.2 server didn't help the server core dumps with
xtrek) ALL (well almost all) my server core dumps disappear. When using the
1024x768 resolution I HAVE to use Speedup and 1024x1024 or the machine locks
up without me being able to do anything first once I start X. BTW, my swap
partition is small (5.5 megs) and I have some memory filesystems (although
unmounting them doesn't seem to help). Swapping DOES seem to occur EASILY with
teh 1024x768 mode but not the 800x600 mode.

If the answer is clear cut "I need more Memory" then I'll go out and buy 4
more megs to give me a total of 16, but 12, although not a lot, seems like a
decent amount. Again, what gives?

Finally, a public thanks to Rich Murphey for bringing X to us members of the
386bsd community (cheers and applause :)
