386BSD is distributed with elvis 1.5.  I am using 1.6 which fixes many
of these bugs.  And elvis 1.7 is now available, which is supposed to
support tag stacks.  Installation (of 1.6) mostly involves
configuration, e.g.,  to look for elvisrecover in libexec.  I will post
the diffs for 1.7 when I have them if no one else does.
